Smartupdater is a jQuery plugin which simplifies sending regular requests to a server (polling) and handling the responses.

It can be started or stopped on any event and the interval of the polling periods can be defined as well (you can also set this timeout value remotely).

The plugin handles the updates smartly and can only return responses "if the new response is different than the previous one".

You can reach the current state of it (on/off) to act accordingly and, optionally, disable the polling automatically after any given number of errors.

To sum up, Smartupdater is very handy for any application that displays live data with Ajax.
